I've always loved old R & B and soul, but we've just approached that time period in my African American Music History class so I'm really big into it now as I listen to people I've never heard before. No CDs, but I've been downloading a ton of Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, and Louis Jordan

I've also recently discovered Ingrid Michaelson, who is a completely different genre altogether but I love her

And the Old 97s are occupying a huge chunk of my playlists lately too

Exclusively the new Shins cd.  It hasn't left the stereo in almost two weeks.  I need to branch out - but it's so good!

I actually bought the new cd by Amy Winehouse as well.

I'm not a Beyonce fan, but her two new songs:

Green Light
&
Get me Bodied

are really catchy, perfect for working out!

The past few weeks I've been obsessed w/the new Gwen Stefani & John Legend CDs.  I missed John Legend in concert last night, but am going to see Gwen in June.

At work, I have a strange mix of Chris Botti, Andre Ward, 311, Lifehouse, Sting, No Doubt, UB40, Gipsy Kings, & Prince on my pandora account.

Travelgirl, I have been wondering about the new Norah Jones--is it kinda bluesy, like her first album, or more countryish, like her second?  I loved her first but thought the second was okay.  You obviously like the new album, but can you tell me anything about it?

Hmmm...I guess the best way to describe it is MELLOW. It is like "rainy day" music-ish.   I still like her first CD best but this one is better than the second one.  It is kind of bluesy, jazzy AND countryish and good for background music.  HTH!

lately I've been listening to Aimee Mann, Jump Little Children, Cary Brothers & Sia. I wanted to get the new Fountains of Wayne but when I listened to the itunes clips none of it really grabbed me--does anyone have a take on it? I actually think I like the songs Adam Schlesinger wrote for "Music and Lyrics" better than the songs on the actual band's album!

(KH, if you ever get sick of the shins and you don't already have it, check out the Fountains' "Welcome Interstate Managers"... I think you'd like them, and plus they were Williams class of '90 or something. Hurray for over-articulate, snarky nerds!)

i have the BEST (for me) workout mix right now that i'm totally not sick of, despite listening to it for weeks now and i have killa to thank for it.  it's all 80's dance remixes.  i went to itunes store-music-imixes-and did a search for 80's remix.

i just needed a break from my typical music lately.

i think imixes are one of my favorite ways to find new music (i also really like looking through celebrity playlists).

I've been listening to the new Arcade Fire album, "Neon Bible."

I still love The Killers' "Sam's Town" too.

Squishy- It is kinda  pop alternative country if that makes sense?  If you like the Dixie Chicks you would probably like it.  I am trying to broaden my musical horizons and to put it into perspective, I usually lean towards R&B, neo-soul, hip hop and jazz (and usually NOT country or alternative) so this is a departure to my usual tastes but I still like it.  Not too country-ish or twangy at all.

Oh, I really like the Amy Winehouse CD.   It reminds me of the old-fashioned soul girl groups from the 50's and 60's and  is kinda funky Etta James-ish but she also sounds like Lauryn Hill to me too.   I like it because it is different-there isn't much of this kind of sound out there right now.

The funny thing is that your mom (and maybe even your grandma!) would probably like this cd too (except she does say the f-word a few times on there!)...

I've been listening to:

*Paolo Nutini, who is adorable and way too young for me to think so
*Mika (do any of you like him? I'm obsessed -- his music is so over-the-top and cheerful)
*The new John Mayer, which is really growing on me in its bluesy way
*The new Phoenix
*The new Modest Mouse song, "Dashboard."  I cannot stop listening to it
*The latest Maroon Five single (can't get it out of my head)

I think I need to give Amy Winehouse another chance.  I didn't like her on first listen, but everyone seems to love her, so I don't want to give up yet! And I must check out the rest of The Shins CD.  So far, I've only heard "Phantom Limb," and I loved it.
