This may be a really dumb question, but here goes:
My boyfriend is super duper sick. They're not really sure what's wrong with him - the Dr ran tests for mono, flu, and strep throat, although the strep throat tests are apparently not 100% accurate. They all came back negative. The Dr put him on some antibiotics anyway, thinking that it's an infection. I hung out with him on Friday and Saturday, and although I did avoid kissing him, etc., I was still around him for long periods of time.
I don't know if it's just my paranoia or a legitimate problem, but right now my throat seems kind of sore to me.
Would I know this quickly if I caught his infection? How long does it take? I really hope I don't have it, because he was really wincing with the pain all day. He said it feels like knives scraping the back of his throat every time he swallows - yikes! So obviously I hope I don't have it, but I'm trying to be really conscious of myself in case I did catch it, so I can get on top of it and try and treat it before it gets as bad as his is. But now I can't tell if I'm just noticing my throat because I'm looking for it.

My boyfriend just got over strep throat, and that's what it sounds like your boyfriend has to me. He described it as knives scraping the back of his throat. Does your BF have a fever, white spots in the back of his throat, or swollen glands? The fever is usually the first indicator of strep. Anyhow, the doctor told my BF that after 48 hours on the antibotics, he'd no longer be contagious. I hope you don't get sick! I live w/my BF and didn't catch it, if that makes you feel any better

It does make me feel better! When I get sick, I get sick. So I'm paranoid. He had a fever for a couple days, but after starting to take the antibiotics it went down. He wouldn't let me look for white spots, though...and he was sick and crabby, so I let that go.
That fact about antibiotics makes me feel better, though... if he does have strep, then I didn't have that much contact before he wasn't contagious anymore :)

Yeah, it def sounds like strep to me. My bf had the same symptoms. I wouldn't worry too much - if he's been on the antibotics, he's not contagious anymore!
