It is so cold out. I need a warm vacation! I have planned two weekend get-aways to Florida one in March with some friends and another in April to visit my Mom who recently moved to Naples. I can't wait! I am also in the middle of planning a bachelorette weekend for one of my best friends who is getting hitched in June. She wants to do a something low key and relaxing (no vegas or anything). I was thinking of planning a long weekend to the Bahamas for it. As we are all in need of a bahamavention, I think this would be the best island to go to because it is close. I havent been there in a while so I was wondering which island would be best? We want to go and relax but also would love some night life!
I have been to two places in the bahamas in the past couple years -- the westin at our lucaya (we flew into freeport -- not sure which island this is), and then hotel riu on grand bahama island.
here's a thread about the riu, which includes pictures:
i went to the westin for a wedding, and it was significantly more expensive (not all inclusive and food/drinks were outrageously priced). riu was all inclusive, which made it easy to relax. as far as nightlife, riu had not much of it's own to speak of (stuff closed pretty early -- 11 or 12, i think), but atlantis is right next door so you could head over there and stuff was open later. at our lucaya, you could walk across the street to "port lucaya" ( i think this is what it was called), which was a little walking village type thing with touristy shops, restaurants, and bars. there was a pretty good bourbon street-style nightime scene going on there (acutally, daytime too -- frozen to-go drinks -- the bride's 18 yr old sister came back wasted at 3pm on the first day we were there, talking about $1 shots).
Belize! Belize! Belize! In June (with Metric)! And maybe Tobago over spring break...have a free house option that's normally priced at $1000 per night so I really shouldn't pass this up.

Hopefully Alaska... Ever since 4th grade when I became obsessed with the Iditarod, I begged my parents to go to Alaska for our summer vacation. Now they're going this summer, but I might not be able to because of school! UGH
And I want to go on a smaller trip with BF this summer, but I guess that depends on his school/job this summer. He already has a cruise planned with his parents and brother, so I don't know if he'll be able to take off more to take a small trip with me.

Oh! How was Paris?? Somewhere I have always wanted to go. I am jealous! Where did you stay? What did you see? I saw a sale fare on the Lufthansa site for $330. I am so tempted to book it!
Paris is wonderful! If you have time for a week trip, I highly recommend it! We stayed for 6 nights at Hotel Du Lys in the 6th (right by St. Michel and Odeon). We then splurged and stayed the last two nights at Hotel du Crillon by Place de la Concorde. Well worth it - though very expensive. You feel like a princess.
Here's a brief list of the things we did:
1. Explored/shopped around Place Ste Sulpice
2. Took a short trip to Versailles and walked around the grounds - we'd already visited the chateau before
3. Went to the Picasso museum, ate falafel and went to tea in the Marais
4. Wandered along Rue Ste. Honore and had the most delicious hot chocolate at Angelina
5. Went to the Louvre and shopped the galleries
6. Explored the Champs Elysees and the side streets around there
7. Visited the Orangerie museum to see the waterlily paintings
8. Ate lots of wonderful food!
Have fun planning your trip - I wish I were going on vacation again now!
Nothing too fabulous. For spring break I am going to visit my sister in the beautiful Pacific North West. So far I plan on going to a casino and shopping at the Seattle Premium Outlets. Maybe a little road trip around the area would be nice to check out the lovely scenery.
