Tahari Suit
Permalink Closed

So I have an Elie Tahari suit from a few years ago that doesn't fit me anymore. I think I paid around $400 for it at an outlet store. It is a size 12 and I am now a size 8.

I'm considering either a) getting it altered, b) selling it on ebay or to a store like Plato's Closet, or c) giving it away.

Would it really look alright to get it altered from a 12 to an 8? The shoulders might look too wide or something? And I'm not quite sure about trying to sell it because it definitely is a bit worn, and the pants have been hemmed. What would you guys do?

I say donate it to a woman's group.  Ebay is a hassle and I don't know that you'll make that much esp if it's a little worn looking.  Just feel good knowing that you got a few years use out of it and that you've gone down a few sizes!

Tailoring may work but I haven't been happy with things I've had altered more than one size up or down.

I think it would be very difficuly (and therefore $$$) to take the jacket in that much. Sell or donate it and put the money toward a new one that fits great!

I think it would be best to donate to a Dress for Success type group.

A really good tailor can do wonders with alterations, but if you're going down two sizes it would just be best to buy a suit in your new size. The alterations can get to be really expensive, especially with the jacket.

I second the Dress for Success suggestion if you decide not to keep it.... it's a truely amazing and inspiring organization.

getting the jacket altered is going to be extremely pricey and it won't ever really be the same again.

that being said, i agree with the other suggestions of the Dress for Success program.
