I usually buy pre-packaged frozen smoothie mixes from the grocery store. The one I get has pineapples, strawberries, and something else... I forget, but anyway... with that I add orange juice, milk, a banana, and a couple dollops of yogurt.
I know this wasn't a very detailed recipie! But I love my frozen smoothie fruit mixes, because then I can bypass ice entirely since the fruit is frozen, so then it's not at all diluted! And the frozen fruit has the rest of the ingredients listed on the box. I haven't thought about additives before, but now that you mention it I think I'm going to look into some of those. Definitely can't hurt!

I also just have bags of frozen mixed fruit on hand that I toss in the blender w/ a little nonfat milk. I usually add protein powder and psyllium husks (fiber).

this may be a dumb question, but how does one go about getting protein powder? Do they sell it in grocery stores near the vitamins? Or where do I have to go to get it?

I make a smoothie that tastes pretty much the same as Jamba Juice's Strawberry Surf Rider (my fave!). I blend peaches, strawberries, and lemonade. Yum. Otherwise if I want a different smoothie I just blend up some frozen fruit and some juice, and maybe some yogurt.
ETA: ttara, I don't know if the grocery store sells it, but I'm pretty sure places like GNC carry it.

LOL...not a dumb question at all. Some grocery stores carry it (usually w/ the vitamins), but you can definitely get it at "health" stores like Nature's Way or GNC. My Trader Joe's carries the brand I buy and a couple of others too.
