Oil cleansing method

Does anyone do this? Basically you massage oils into your skin (usually castor oil and something else, like olive oil or jojoba), then "steam" your face with a washcloth and wipe off.

Reviews around the blogosphere are mixed, but I tried it this week with a mix of castor and sweet almond oils, and I was shocked to see that most of the blackheads were sucked right off my nose after doing this just once.

I'm a little nervous to do this every single day so I think I'm going to try doing it 1-2x week (and using a gentle cleanser the other days) and working up to every day if everything looks good.

I haven't tried oil cleansing, but I do use oil on my face. This always seemed counterintuitive to me, especially since I have naturally oily skin, but my skin seems to like it. That being said, I don't use it every day.

I've read about it but haven't tried it. I tried Argan oil as a moisturizer 2 years ago and it broke me out. Haven't tried to put oil back on my face since. But, like I said, I've heard of other women who swear by it.

I do it. I don't do it everyday, but every couple weeks when I think of it. Some nights, it just sounds awesome to use oil to cleanse because it's cold outside or my face feels stressed. It feels great! It works well. As for doing it every day, I don't see a problem with it. I would just say that, unless you have crazy-dry skin, stick with lighter, sebum-mimicking jojoba oil. Almond oil is quite heavy. Maybe once a week, or whenever you feel the need, wash with regular cleanser.

Also, in the past, I purchased a facial cleansing oil, so I guess I have oil-cleansed on a daily basis. It worked perfectly fine for me. One other thing - make sure you keep doing other parts of your skin care regimen (exfoliating, toning, whatever).

Jojoba oil is pretty cheap too, right? At least better than a prepared oil-cleanser from the store (and probably better for your skin). :)

I have used Shu Uemura's cleansing oils. My skin feels gross afterwards and I tend to rewash with regular cleanser afterwards. However, it is great for getting off stubborn makeup.

Hello Guys i think that the basic idea of cleansing method is that the oil used to massage your skin will melt the oil that has solidified with toxins and discovered itself trapped in your skin pores. The vapor will start your skin pores, enabling the oil to be quickly eliminated. Thanks a lot!!

About a month in and I'm hooked! Still only doing it about 2x a week....I probably would be fine doing it more than that but the whole process of massaging it in, steaming my face, wiping it off...I'm not up to it every night. (And I can't do it in the morning because it doesn't play nicely with my sunscreen, which I love too much to switch.) But when I do, it's fantastic. And I've started using a few drops of almond oil in place of my nightly moisturizer, whether I oil cleanse or use face wash, and my crazy dry winter skin is under control. Yay!

pollyjean-Good to know about jojoba! I found a chart somewhere that said which oils to use for different skin types, which is how I picked almond oil (although now I can't remember what the criteria were or anything, I just wrote down which one I decided I needed!) but I'll keep Jojoba in mind if it starts getting too heavy once Spring comes around!

Just remembered that my esthetitian used castor oil in facial. Also gave me a white castor oil based liquid to take care of red spot/zit or other unexpected facial misfortune.
