Am I crazy to go to NYC in Feb??
Permalink Closed

So me and my bf (both live in Chicago) have a free plane ticket to use anywhere in the contiguous US for a four day trip. We have to book something by next week so we are trying to decide where to go. We are thinking of going somewhere in Feb for Vday weekend and originally wanted to go to Ft. Lauderdale in FL. But....since there has been a crazy cold-front everywhere in the US, the temps in FL aren't very "summer"-ish. So he came up with the idea to go to NYC since we have always wanted to go there and neither of us has been. He said we could actually do some sightseeing there and walk around and explore diff things....whereas in Ft. Lauderdale, we would prob just chill by the beach etc (which wouldn't really be relaxing since the weather isn't swim weather). I thought the NYC trip was a great idea but now I'm thinking its kind of crazy bc we are basically leaving Chicago in 7 degree weather to go to another city with the same horrible weather. What do you ladies think/any other suggestions??

I think NYC is a little warmer, and totally recommend going! There's plenty of places to duck in to warm up if you need to.

Thanks for the quick reply ILoveChoo! Do any of you NYC girls have any ideas on which hotel to stay? My bf gets points through Marriott...so a courtyard or maybe a marriott itself but maybe something NOT directly downtown (assuming its SO expensive). Where else can we stay that's in a good area and very close to downtown?

Also, any must-see ideas for which tourist attractions we should see and maybe some great in-expensive restaurants ideas?

Meh - if it were me, I wouldn't want to go from 7 degree weather to 17 degree weather. NYC can be a fun tourist attraction in the winter during the holidays but Valentine's day is notorious for restaurants being impossible to book, they change their menus and hike up prices. Also we've gotten snow storms on VDay in the past.

Why not go to a warmer state and do things not on the beach? (yellowstone park... san francisco..)

I'm in love with NYC any time of the year.

Won't it be warmer in Florida by Valentine's Day, or is that cold weather there to stay?
