Where to vacation?
Permalink Closed

My husband and I want to take a really nice vacation next year before starting a family.  The only problem, we can't decide where we want to go!  I have no idea where to get started.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a romantic vacation?
Thanks!

St. John, USVI is my first recommendation.  We stayed at Caneel Bay several years ago, and it was amazing.

Do you want tropical? In the states or abroad? What kind of vacation do you want?

I've heard St John is awesome.  I love Cabo, 'cause I'm on the west coast

I went to Cabo for spring break (keep in mind I went with my Dad), but I don't see it being a romantic locale. IMO, there's not a lot to do in Cabo per se except lie on the beach. I don't consider that romantic.

I really liked Amsterdam  - it's a beautiful city, and that to me can inspire romance. I went with my dad and brother, but I bet it could be romantic. There's more to Amsterdam than what comes to mind (pot, Anne Frank, red-light district).

I've never been on a romantic vacay (no one to go with cry), so maybe I'm off the mark.

Venice and/or the Greek Isles. We loved every minute we were there this summer.

Well, after pricing everything, we could afford to go to Europe, but we are both to unsure of how we would get around. I wanted to go to Malta and he wanted to go to Australia. Living in Florida, we can go to the beach anytime, but since it's one of our favorite things, we decided on a tropical vacation.

So we decided to go to........ Puerto Rico! It's only a 2hr flight. I already looked at a beach apartment for most of the trip, and an overnight stay on one of the small islands, but I know that there are some very nice resorts. Does anyone know or have been to one of these resorts? I'm looking for a place with nice restaurants and spa.

Puerto Rico! I was just there this summer and loved it. I highly highly recommend staying at least one night on the island of Vieques. Tons of gorgeous, untouched, uncrowded beaches. Not a lot of people go there (it used to be a U.S. military base and most of the island was closed off to the public) so it still has a low-key vibe... We found everyone there to be really friendly. You can get there via ferry or a quick flight from San Juan or Fajardo.

In terms of lodging, I believe they are building a W resort on Vieques. We didn't stay there but I imagine it has the amenities you're looking for (it opens this November).

Hope that helps! Feel free to PM me if you want more details.
