It's allergy season and mine are flared up. Suggestions?

It is allergy season and there is pollen and dust all over the place.  It seems to have kicked up this week because my Zyrtec is not even touching it anymore.  I take 24 hour Zyrtec regularly but I need to try something else.    Anything with the D in it keeps me up all night so I really can't take that.  The last time I saw my doctor she suggested Zyrtec in the morning, benedryl at night.  I am planning on trying that this weekend but in the chance that it doesn't work does anyone have any suggestions?

I was just going to suggest Benadryl, but I'm completely immune to it's potential drowsy side effect. (For example, I took 3 in 3 hours once and was totally fine). It's pretty much my best friend from April-September!

What about Claritin? I know some have luck with that

I just wanted to warn you about Benadryl - It can be extremely drying. When I was staying with a friend who had two shedding cats, my allergies were killing me and I had to take Benadryl every day. I ended up getting nosebleeds frequently because it dried out my tissues so much. So just a heads up, if you do take Benadryl, make sure you stay VERY hydrated.

Thanks for the heads up on Benedryl. I think I'm going to give it a whirl. I've tried Claritin in the past but it didn't work as good as Zyrtec did so I haven't tried it again.

I am a clartin girl. Zyrtec never even ouched my allergies. Other than the normal meds, I am not sure what you can do. I know here in FL this is the worst time of the year for allegries and everyone is sneezing everywhere.

My husband swears by Flonase (avail in generic now) and takes Claritin as a supplement.  Man, you might have to look into shots if Zyrtec isn't helping.  I think Zyrtec is really strong.  I could be wrong.

Aurora-I have been the same way this whole past week! Claritin usually works for me, but it isn't even helping now! I am sure our lovely Houston air doesn't help!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one suffering.  I am using Zyrtec-D 12 hour right now each morning and then taking Benedryl at night.  I'm not great but I don't have a horrible headache like I did Friday night and I can smell during the day. Still sneezing all over the place.
