I fractured a bone in my foot!

Not really an exciting announcement but I'm so mad at myself and need to vent!  I fractured a bone in my foot last friday (it is one of the sesamoid on the ball of your foot).  Apprently it was a hairline fracture that got worse.  I had noticed some pain in my foot the past two weeks but just figured it was from wearing heels or not stretching before running.  Last friday I was walking to a meeting in midtown and was putting a little more weight on my foot thinking "Man this really is sore, maybe I should go see a doctor about it..."  when I felt a pop and then the pain REALLY started!

Now I'm in a "boot" for 3 more weeks and am really upset about not being able to run for a while.  I also need to buy the orthedics (sp?) from my doctor for my shoes so that the bone doesn't get worse and have to be removed...and of course insurance doesn't cover it.  If I was smater I would have gone to the doctor sooner...never ignore pain in your feet!

Anyway I guess it's a good thing that flats are in style.

Anyone got any tips on making sure this heals right and I don't make it worse?  I've just heard I should wear the inserts all the time once I get them.

Ouch! Sorry to hear this, stay off your feet as much as possible and hopefully your foot will heal just fine.

that stinks your insurance doesn't cover it! I bet you're in a lot of pain... I agree with cahabo just to stay off your feet...now you can have an excuse to watch lots and lots of really bad reality TV :)

That sucks! Like you said, thankfully flats are in! Take it easy and see if you can get at least one session with a physical therapist. I went to one for my ankle and basically they just gave me a worksheet with exercises I could do at home to help get flexibility back. Then I went in once a week for a month or so just so they could monitor my healing.

My insurance didn't cover my air cast that I had to wear for a month after I got my cast off. It was really aggravating, especially since it totally stretched out my shoes.
